Join us Saturday, January 14th our “Dinner and a Show” Tasting with Juno award winning musician, Bill Wood, accompanied by A lister, Burke Carroll.
Bill is the songwriter and front man for Bill Wood and The Woodies, a respected roots rock band on the Southern Ontario circuit.
An industry veteran singer-songwriter and former lead vocalist for Juno-nominees EyeEye, Bill Wood’s songs have been described as “what happens when 30 years of songwriting, honed over decades of hard life experiences, meet the craftsmanship of a career musician who doesn’t know what it means to compromise.” Paired with the sweet sounds of Burke Carroll’s pedal steel and resophonic guitars, these songs take on the aura of old favourites with a brand-new feel.
If you are listening to any Canadian country, folk or Americana record and hear that haunting pedal steel sound, there’s a very good chance you’re hearing the work of Burke Carroll. Burke, who studied in New York with David Leisner (Guitar co-chair, Manhattan School of Music) to develop playing techniques for the resophonic and pedal steel guitars, is now a teacher himself and an in-demand player. Burke has performed with (and has recorded with) Oh Susanna, Justin Rutledge and recorded with Sarah Harmer, Murray McLauchlan and Ian Tyson, among others.
Bill & Burke perform original songs that range from heartbreaking ballads to classic country shuffle. You’ll swear you’ve heard those songs before.
Doors open at 6 pm so you can get settled with wine by the glass. At 6:30, enjoy a one plate meal of mushroom and lentil shepherd’s pie with a baby spinach salad paired to three wines by Vintner, Sherry Karlo. Between each tasting, Bill and Burke will perform songs inspired by the pairings. By 7:15 or so, you’ll be enjoying over two hours of live music performances by these two seasoned musicians in Karlo’s cozy Speakeasy wine lounge.
