2021 Petite Pearl

CA$29.00

This new world grape varietal was bred to withstand temperatures of -40C. As a result, it thinks the County is a warm climate, so it acts like a warm climate wine. It is the rebellious child of Pinot Noir, being the exact opposite. It’s dark, opaque and high in alcohol so it is warm on the palate and all of the descriptors are dark.

Winemakers’ Notes

This hybrid grape extends the depth of our portfolio being the darkest of our reds. A wine that is very intense with rich flavours and ripe fruit. The grapes were hand-harvested in late October in warm, sunny conditions, de-stemmed and crushed before it was fermented in small bins using selected yeast. The cap was punched down manually, 2-3 times each day until ferment was complete at which time the wine was pressed off the skins. After aging for 15 months this wine was filtered before being gravity-bottled by hand.

Tasting Notes

This lush, medium-bodied red has fruit and structure. Expect white peppercorn on the nose with delicate flowers, coffee, old-fashioned licorice, damp cedar and peat moss. It’s dark, opaque and has a smooth, fruity palate with stewed blackcurrant, plum pudding and mouth-watering tannins with a lingering finish.

Pairing Notes

Pair shepherd’s pie, cashew tomato lasagna, mushroom soup or casserole, black bean tostadas, chilli, harvest stew, grilled garlic, roasted eggplant and a fire.
